Frequently Asked Questions?
What is an Independent Dental Hygiene Clinic?
An independent dental hygiene clinic is a dental clinic that offers dental hygiene specific services and there is no dentist on site. We offer a comprehensive dental hygiene exam, including medical and dental history review, assessment of the teeth and gums, scaling and root planing (the removal of plaque and tartar) above and below the gumline, polishing to remove stain, fluoride for cavity protection and desensitization and radiographs. If you are experiencing dental pain we can see you but know that if it is out of our scope of practice we will refer you to your dentist.
Who can go to an independent clinic?
An independent dental hygiene clinic is accessible for anyone. We can see anyone from babies to adults.
Do I need to see a dentist before my cleaning appointment?
It is not required to have seen a dentist prior to coming in for dental hygiene care. However, it is advisable to see a dentist at least yearly to assess for cavities. If something of concern is noted in a patients mouth we will advise you to contact your dentist for follow up.
Cost of cleaning? Do you accept dental insurance?
Average cost of dental hygiene services range from $150-250 depending on the time needed to complete treatment. Independent dental hygienists have their own fee guide for services rendered through the British Columbia Dental Hygiene Association (BCDHA).
